Ballon d’Or 2021 Power Rankings

The Ballon d’Or returned in 2021 after being canceled in 2020.. Many football fans eyed this opportunity for their favorite player to win this prestigious title. Most of these football players play for great European teams and are the dark horses of betting/bookies. Talking of bookies, football fanatics in Vietnam can visit Vwin for the latest bookie bets football odds for the best experience.

In other news, there was stiff competition between Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski. Lionel Messi emerged the winner being his seventh Golden Ball. He beat Robert Lewandowski into second place when France Football announced the results in Paris on November 29.

Below are the players that were in the top five positions:

#5 Kylian Mbappe

When the Ballon d’Or rankings began tracking football players in March, Kylian Mbappe was far ahead of all other candidates due to his hat trick performance for Paris Saint-Germain against Barcelona.

With his country in the Euros, Mbappe backed up another star performance with an exceptional Champions League display. But he was, unfortunately, one of France’s biggest disappointments and found himself sinking into obscurity after Euro 2020 ended.

He wasn’t able to find a way back into the top five by season’s end, but his wait for an individual honor finally came when he was announced as Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 Player of the Year.

#4 N’Golo Kante

The most poised and luxurious player guaranteed to make your heart race, N’Golo Kante was a machine for Chelsea as they clinched their first Champions League title in Orlando. He played an integral part of both legs against Real Madrid on penalties.

Injuries have disrupted his career over recent years, but nobody can match up to what he does when fully fit.

#3 Jorginho (Chelsea)

Jorginho headed into this ceremony as one of its favorites after helping Chelsea win the Champions League and his country, Italy to win the Euro championships last year with Europa Point’s domestic title included!

Jorginho was voted UEFA’S Player of the Year after helping his club and country win silverware. Although he didn’t receive as much recognition for playing well on either side, it would be wrong to say that Jorginho’s efforts were not appreciated by those who know him best.

#2 Robert Lewandowski

It is no doubt that Robert Lewandowski would have won the Ballon d’Or in 2020 if it weren’t for France Football controversially canceling this prestigious award.

It’s almost inconceivable that one player could have carried his form from last season into this year and not been selected. But some believe Robert Lewandowski should’ve gone down as an automatic selection for the award given how well he played in 2019?

Despite settling for second place, Robert Lewandowski could not have done any more to force himself into the reckoning. It would not be surprising if Bayern Munich’s star would be on stage collecting his favorite award.

#1 Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has officially become number seven on this list with the Ballon d’Or trophy firmly in his possession. Messi was about to single-handedly dragged Barcelona to what would have been an unlikely La Liga title during their opening months of 2021. When they finally got over the line, he won Player of the Tournament and Golden Boot at Copa America!

He could have been denied the Ballon d’Or, but he still scooped it, thanks to Ballon d’Or voters. His goal record might not be the same as that of Lewandowski’s, but he won it anyway. For that reason, it is no surprise to see Messi come out on top of one of the closest fights for years.
