A legend of classical music world Richard Gill died at his Sydney home on Sunday morning. Gill passed away at the age of 76, just a few days before his 77th birthday.
The world-famous music educator was awarded Order of Australia Medal in 1994. Winner of 2001 Centenary Medal and Bernard Heinze Award, Gill was an internationally beloved conductor.
Following Richard Gill tragic death, Twitter is inundated with condolence messages. One user commented saying Richard was truly an ‘irreplaceable treasure of Australian music education’. ABC anchor Leigh Sales wrote Australia had lost ‘a magnificent human being this morning’.

“This was the perfect way of saying thank you, goodbye and a great tribute to somebody who has made so much of a difference, to not only the lives of musicians, but to everybody who really listens to music.”“He has left a legacy and there are other people who will continue his work.”
Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra paid a touching tribute to the deceased musician writing,
 “Richard will be remembered as a giant in Australian music,an iconic conductor, teacher and passionate campaigner for music education.”
