As soon as Joe O’Brien comes on in ABC’s morning news I switch to another channel.
He is a terrible presenter and uptalks which sounds so lacking in confidence and really grates. Why can’t he study the women presenters on ABC who talk normally and don’t uptalk. Joe O’Brien is getting worse and up talking by aussies are a laughing stock overseas.
Speaking publicly they should be made to watch themselves and compare to presenters who don’t do it. Up talking (inflexing up at the end of sentences and often every word in a questioning way of speaking and showing a feeling of inferiority). Even the many on site young reporters don’t do it.
Women politicians, especially Qld premier all do it. Surely they have voice coaches for public speaking.
I have heard some ignorant opinions in my 86 years, but the letter above needs to be taken down. Apart from the grammar and the extraordinary lack of insight, I wonder what qualifications the writer has to consider himself an expert in the field of presentation and public broadcasting?
It is possible to find fault with everyone. Joe O’Brien and his colleagues are in the spotlight most days and during the events which we all experience. How they endure reading some of the horrible and terrifying news that they are required to present must be a huge load on their mental health. A word of thanks and encouragement might be in order rather than a nasty attack on personal individual traits.
