Meredith O’ Meara’s husband was born on January 13, 1957, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. However, he spent his entire childhood in Southern California in Mission Viejo. From an early age, he showed interest in playing golf. At the age of 13, he would often sneak to the nearby Mission Viejo Country Club where he eventually became an employee.

As for his educational background, Mark attended local schools in California. During high school, he joined his high school golf team. in 1979, he won the title of U.S. Amateur and also won the California State Amateur Championship the same year. He graduated from California State University Long Beach in 1980 with a degree in marketing. 

After graduating, he started playing golf professionally. He kicked off his career winning 16 events on the PGA Tour. He is the five-time winner of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. In the year 1998, he won the Cisco World Match Play Championship and finished second in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time in his career. Likewise, in 2007, Mark joined the Champions Tour and had a number of top-10 finishes, including multiple runner-up finishes, but no victories in his first three seasons.
