Rebecca Luker agent Sarah Fargo confirmed to The New York Times that the actress had passed away on Wednesday in a hospital in Manhattan.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord and causes the loss of muscles and eventual paralysis.

Rebecca Luker was an American actress, singer, and recording artist. She appeared in several musical theatre productions on Broadway. She began her three-decade-long Broadway career as an understudy for the role of Christine DaaĆ© in āThe Phantom of the Operaā from 1988 to 1991.
Rebecca Luker left in 1991 to originate the role of Lily in the Secret Garden musical, for which she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award.
