Rhys Burnett was a part of the final round of the state championships which was held in Manjimup, South West of Western Australia.
During the competition, Rhys crashed and was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital. On the way to the hospital, he took his last breath with the cause of death being injuries from the crash.
A coach, as well as a friend, Luke Davis said,
He got the holeshot — which means he came out of the first corner in first place and he was leading the whole pack,

We all saw what happened — it was just a typical race incident.
