On Sunday morning, after a strong finish in the men’s 400m individual medley final, Australian swimmer Brendon Smith has earned Australia’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Since Rob Woodhouse in Los Angeles in 1984, Smith is the first Australian to earn a medal in the men’s 400m individual medley. To mow down the field and touch the wall third, the 21-year-old pulled out a freestyle leg. With 100 meters to go, he was languishing in the last few of spots. Mr. Smith said,
