Colin Friels collapsed during one of his stage performances in 2016. Theatres are far more hectic and tiring than films, yet Collin seems entirely devoted to the plays rather than the big screen.

‘It’s just I’m getting old enough to play parts that I like. I worked out a long time ago that theatre is dog’s work, but you’ve got to be a pretty good dog to do it.

If you want your dogs to bring your horses back in really good shape, you send out your best dogs. That’s what theatre’s like, but I’m addicted to it. I do a big play, I end up in hospital, it nearly kills me and I think, ‘F— it, I’ll never do another play as long as I live’. Then 18 months later, I get the craving.’

Colin Friels is an Australian actor born on 25th September 1952. He was born & raised in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland. At age 11, Colin along with his family moved to Darwin, Australia.

Colin Friels graduated in the year 1976 from National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). He initially worked as a bricklayer labor before joining the academy.

Colin Friels started with few roles in small screen and theatres. He presented the long-running series ‘Play School,’ in 1970. Friels had his debut appearance in the film Monkey Grip. He was featured as the main character in the movie Malcolm, for which he was awarded with the best actor award at the 1986 AFI Award.

With movies like Ground Zero, Darkman, Hard Corps and many more Colin Friels has performed various character of different genre. For his role as Frank Holloway in Water Rats, he won the most outstanding actor at the 1997 awards.
