Graham Ross is juggling between his long-running radio show and the international garden tour company. However, he managed his time for the television show. He said,
“My life is very rich and full and that’s why I work seven days per week and have done since I was 11,”
“I lost a lot of colleagues in the 80s who were brilliant horticulturalists. Mainly because we were all exposed to carcinogenic (gardening) chemicals in the 60s and 70s.”
Ross added,
“So, I think today I’m working for Bruce, and tomorrow I’m working for Barry and all my mates that aren’t here anymore, I’ll put in a day for them.”

From the young age of 4, Ross started gardening eventually becoming a part-timer at his local garden center by the age of 11 in Sydney’s southern suburbs.
With the qualifications in horticulture, landscaping, Greenkeeping, Park Administration, and Agronomy, Ross graduated from the Ryde School of Horticulture TAFE.
Graham Ross is also a cancer survivor. He said,
“I’ve had a couple of nasty skin cancers, and I’m a prostate [cancer] survivor,”
“They thought I had bowel cancer there for a while, but at the moment I don’t, which is good. I lost my whole bottom lip a while ago – had to have it razored off – that was the most serious. There was a major skin cancer heading down my cheek into my throat, carotid artery and lymph glands.”
He added,
“When I was head of horticulture at Ryde TAFE I had 76 teachers working with me, and 32 of them have died of cancer. We were exposed to the worst, most carcinogenic chemicals back then, which is why I’m so keen on organic gardening today.”
