A month after Melissa Caddick disappeared from her home in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, a court heard that more than $13 million was reportedly misappropriated by her from her clients who trusted her to invest their money.
After federal police searched her Doer Heights home as part of an Australian Securitites and Investments Commission (ASIC) investigation, the businesswoman disappeared on Novermber 12.
Instead of investing their savings, she reportedly used money from clients to fund her extravagant lifestyle. Her investment firm, Maliver, is also reported to have been working without a license.
Ms Caddick is being handled by NSW Police as a missing person while under a court order all of her possessions and records have been frozen. The Federal Court of Australia today heard that investor reportedly turned over more than $13 million in the lead up to Ms. Caddick’s dissappearance.
Stephanie Fendekian, an ASIC’s barrister, told the court,
A large number of additional and unsurprisingly distressed investors have contacted ASIC… these investors have invested $13.1 million with the defendant and majority have not received any funds back,

On November 12, Ms. Caddick’s son told the police that he heard the door of their Dover Heights home close at 5.30 a.m. and thought that his mother had gone for a run. Ever since, she has not been seen.
