During the 1996 Summer Olympics, Peris was a member of the Australian Women’s Hockey team. She became the first Aboriginal Australian to win an Olympic gold medal.
Later, she switched sports and went on to become a double gold medalist in the 1998 Commonwealth Games while competing in 200m sprint.
This acclaimed athlete continued her sports career until the early 2000s.
