Igor Levit is a Russian-German pianist. He mostly focuses on the works of Beethoven, Bach, and Liszt. He is also a professor at the Musikhochschule Hannover.
On 13 September 2019, Sony Classical published his recordings of the full Beethoven piano sonata. Igor Levit was named Gramophone’s 2020 Artist of the Year. Furthermore, he was chosen to be the featured soloist at last month’s Nobel Prize ceremony.

Igor Levit is a Russian-German pianist who was born on March 10, 1987, in Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod). Unfortunately, there is no information on his parents, family, or siblings. In 1995, his family moved to Hanover and at present, he currently resides in Berlin.

Igor started playing the piano at the age of three. As for Igor’s educational background, he attended Mozarteum University Salzburg and later studied at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien from 2000 to 2010. He won prizes in many international competitions during his studies, including first prize at the 9th International Hamamatsu Piano Academy Competition in Hamamatsu (2004), second prize at the International Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens (2004), and many more.
In October 2011, Igor made an appearance in a 45-minute documentary about his love for the music of Franz Liszt. He released his debut album, a set of Beethoven’s piano concertos in 2007 when he was 20 years old. In the 2019/2020 winter semester, Igor was appointed to a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (Hanover University of Music, Drama, and Media).
