A Sydney man was acquitted of murder but found guilty of manslaughter more than two years ago after a samurai sword killing during a failed home invasion.
In the NSW Supreme Court, Blake Davis, 31, and his partner Hannah Quinn, 26, faced a trial over the death of rapper Jett McKee in August 2018.
In their inner-city granny flat, the jurors heard Mr. McKeethreatened the couple with a pretend pistol before Mr. Davis smashed his head with the weapon in the street.

Quinn remembered chasing Mr. McKee down Hereford Lane, in Forest Lodge, in her police interview, trying to retrieve a bag he took and then crying as a replica pistol was pointed at her.

She said that after her boyfriend swung the blade, there was “blood everywhere.” In their house, Davis told the court that a gun was waved at him, and although he didn’t recall getting punched, the sounds of his girlfriend’s screaming came around him.
He said that he felt the life of Quinn was in danger and he used the sword to rescue her. Davis said rapper Jett McKee had said,

After the attack, Davis and Quinn spent days in hotels before turning themselves in at Newtown Police Station.
