Kathleen Folbigg broke down in witness box saying “I miss all my children”. This is the first time she is giving evidence about her diaries at an inquiry of the deaths of her four children.
16 years ago in 2003, Kathleen was jailed for at least 25 years for murdering her three children and man-slaughtering her first-born son, Caleb.
She had kept diary entries from 1989 to 1999. The contents were used to convict her of the crime. At the 2003 trial, Kathleen chose not to give the evidence but, now she is speaking up. Her entries read,
“what scares me most is when I’m alone with baby. “
“I’m expressing a fear that I was scared to death of not finding my children alive.”
The 51-year-old explained the diary was about comparing her children. “I cherish Laura more, I miss her [Sarah] yes, but am not sad that Laura is here and she isn’t,” she wrote.
At the inquiry, Kathleen explained some of those entries were written to “vent” out the frustration with being a parent. She said,
“I was constantly doubting my ability as a mother.”
