Kyle Kashuv and Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting

Stoneman Douglas High School fell under attack on February 14, 2018. Former student Nicholas Curz arrived the school just before dismissal time carrying a duffel bag and a backpack. Entering the Building 12, he armed himself with an AR-15 semi-automatic gun, activated the fire alarm and began firing at the students and teachers indiscriminately.

A total of 17 people, 3 teachers, and 15 students were killed in the incident while another 17 suffered injury. The perpetrator Nicholas Curz was arrested shortly about 2 miles from the high school.

Among the survivors, Kyle Kashuv raised quickly to be an activist promoting Gun rights. Three weeks after the incident, he met with the first lady Melania Trump in the White House.

He further spoke with the First Lady Melania Trump about mental health. He also discussed an app he was planning to develop which would help students connect with each other and share mental and emotional problems.

Kashuv favors “STOP School Violence Act”, a pending legislation that ensures funds for school’s security measure. Further, he supports that a background check should be essential before purchasing a gun. He also advocates that policies should be made that allows teachers and school staffs to be armed all keeping in terms with the second amendment.
