Back in February 2017, Nik Wallenda and Lijana Wallenda and other troupe members were attempting to make a new Guinness World Record for height from the human pyramid highwire act.
However, the pyramid collapsed and five performers were severely injured including Nik Wallenda’s sister Lijana Wallenda. She broke every bone in her face and shattered numerous other bones. It took three plates and 72 screws to surgically repair her face.
Speaking of her injuries and accident, Nik told in an interview,
“I remember laying there and supporting my sister’s head. She broke every bone in her face”.
“The high wire act just fell. We have multiple people on the ground,” a 911 caller said. There are four on the ground that are not moving. I would imagine we’ve got some pretty good injuries.”
However, she has now recovered from the injuries and back to performing

Lijana Wallenda is currently single but she was previously married to her ex-husband Anthony Hernandez. The couple met when they were children and later got married and stayed together for several years.
Lijana Wallenda former partner is also a wire performer who goes by the stage name “Tony Tightropes”. He is better recognized for working with Almas Meirmanov and Paul Matthew Lopez.

“My mother, Lissette, was adopted by a German circus owner. They made her do circus stuff. They were very abusive. This was during World War II–they toured Germany during the war. She has stories about seeing bodies just lying in the road. My father was [also] in the circus school in Cuba.”

“We met when we were 6 and 8. Our families were performing at a circus together,” she said. “And then we re-met when I was 17 and he was 19 at the dollar movies—that’s where all the circus kids hung out. We’ve been together ever since.”
Nevertheless, on August 12, 2013, Lijana partner was arrested for domestic violence. He reportedly tackled and punched his wife. The couple is now divorced.
