The Herald Sun supported cartoonist, Mark Knight’s cartoon of Serena Williams. Whereas, US media and other social media channel criticized for Knight’s doing.
While responding to that criticism,Ā Herald Sun editor- Damon Johnston said,
āA champion tennis player had a mega tantrum on the world stage, and Markās cartoon depicted that. āIt had nothing to do with gender or race.ā

āI drew this cartoon Sunday night after seeing the US Open final, and seeing the worldās best tennis player has a tantrum and thought that was interesting,ā
he added;
āItās been picked up by social media in the US and my phone has just melted down. The world has just gone crazy.ā
