Jake was born on 6 January 1988 making him 33 years old as of 2021. He was born to his mother and father, Allan “Butch” Edwards. When he was a kid, he was very close with his grandfather Arthur Edwards.
Jake kicked off his career as a football player after he was selected in the 2005 AFL National Draft by the Carlton Football Club with its third-round draft pick. Prior to that, he played TAC Cup football with the Western Jets. He made his senior debut for Carlton in the year 2008. He was mainly a leading forward pocket in the early stages of his career.
In 2010, Jake played for the Darley Football Netball Club in the Ballarat Football League alongside brother Jarrod.
