He is the eldest of seven siblings. For 12 years, Cheliah worked for the Special Tactics and Rescue (STAR) unit of the Singapore Police Force, where he trained in tactics, rescue operations, counter-terrorism, kidnappings, and high-profile protection in the riot police.

Only a few years back, Sashi relocated to Australia. He left Singapore and the Police Force job behind. In Australia, Sashi Cheliah went along to work in the culinary field.
