On May 19, 2021, Paul Mooney died of a heart attack at his home in Oakland, California. His death was confirmed by his publicist Cassandra Williams on Wednesday. He was 79 at the time of his death. The news of Paul Mooney’s death was also reported on his official Twitter page. It stated:
