While announcing to leave the politics, the politician said,

“It just wasn’t working. I just cannot reconcile the father that I want and need to be to three little kids while serving as a federal parliamentarian from Western Australia.”

Hammond, age 43, received a tribute from MPs from both sides of the political divide. They even shared their views on the “grueling” travel needed of WA-based politicians in particular.

The Federal Member for Cowan, Anne Aly told Fairfax Media, “You never get a weekend on your own. Never.”

The politician, already married,  a father of three children from which one of them is only six months old and his wife needs his support. Hammond said,

“There’s just too much that I miss out on as a father to kids who desperately need me. Every day that goes past is a day I’m not there for them.”

The former lawyer resigned while announcing his decision on Perth radio. He admitted that he could no longer find any stability in his work and married life. During an emotional interview with 6PR, Tim said,

“I don’t want to dig into the really personal particulars of how that has unfolded, particularly in the last six to two months, other than to say we have tried everything we can to keep all of this together in a way that isn’t going to compromise the strength of what we all have as a family,”

He also added,

“I just can’t risk the consequences of delaying this for another almost 12 months, even if it means going to the backbench, even if it means really scaling back my role, and all of those things have been offered.”

There are no writs for a byelection to get issued, i.e., the politician has not yet formally resigned.
