The day after he was fired for making a sexist and profane threat to a journalist inquiring about his relationship with another reporter, White House Deputy Press Secretary TJ Ducklo resigned.

On Saturday, Mr. Ducklo said in a statement, 

No words can express my regret, my embarrassment and my disgust for my behavior,

I used language that no woman should ever have to hear from anyone, especially in a situation where she was just trying to do her job. It was language that was abhorrent, disrespectful and unacceptable.

It is the first departure, less than a month into the term of President Joe Biden, from the current administration. After an article surfaced in Vanity Fair detailing his sexist attacks against a female Politico journalist to try to suppress a story about his relationship, telling her “I will destroy you,” Mr. Ducklo was suspended for a week without pay on Friday.

Politico journalist Tara Palmeri reported on his then-secret romance with Axios reporter Alexi McCammond, sparking Ducklo’s warnings that he would ‘destroy’ her if she made it public. 

In a People article last week, which came before Ducklo’s threats were disclosed, but after a complaint was sent to his bosses, the pair revealed their relationship. 

The article states that after McCammond, 27, spent 2019 and 2020 covering the Biden campaign, the couple started dating in November. While speaking to the People for th article, TJ Ducklo girlfriend Ms. McCammond said, 

TJ and I knew full well the unfair criticism our relationship might face, but knew that we weren’t going to let bullies get in the way of our own happiness,’
