The legendary Australian singer Helen Reddy, best known for her “I Am Woman” empowerment anthem, passed away at 78 years of age. Ms. Reddy, diagnosed with dementia in 2015, spent the last years of her life in Los Angeles in a celebrity nursing home.
On Tuesday, Ms. Reddy’s family confirmed the news in a statement on Facebook. Ms. Reddy’s children Jordan Sommers and Traci Donat wrote,
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Reddy,
She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.
