Right after Brake’s blind audition with a cover of Nick Jonas’ “Jealous,” he had a last-minute proposal to his boyfriend, Mitchell Baines.
Brake brought his boyfriend on the stage and said that the two already spent six years together. While getting down on his one knee, Brake said,
“You’ve been a constant support for me over these last six years,” “So I just wanted to ask you, will you marry me?”

Coaches and audiences got excited and cheered when Brakes boyfriend replied with a yes. Before putting his proposal in front of his boyfriend, he expressed to the ‘TV Week,’
“It was something I’d decided the night before,” “I was freaking – I can’t even describe it.”
Moreover, the proposal was the first same-sex marriage proposal that aired on an Australian reality television program.
During an interview with The Daily Mail Australia, Brake said,
“I feel like now that the survey happened and the results came through with a positive answer, people can watch this and really feel happy and excited that this is the direction the country is going in,”
he added;
“I can actually pledge my love on this platform without any worries.”
With a plan of tying the knot overseas, the couple became engaged three years ago. But the pair had to postpone their wedding plans because of the announcement of the marriage-equality survey in December of last year.
On his second attempt for the proposal on TV, Brake explained,
“With all that went on with the survey, I really wanted to start afresh.”
