Yo Yo Yang is a medical student from South Australia. She is popular for her appearance in an Australian competitive cooking game show called MasterChef Australia 2021. However, she was eliminated on 25th April 2021 from the show.
After wowing the judges with her signature Korean, American, and Taiwanese influenced fried chicken during auditions, Yonina Yang, best known as YoYo, hoped to make it all the way to finale week. Unfortunately, she became the second contestant to leave the MasterChef kitchen.
After British chef Nigella Lawson tasked her with recreating her iconic toasted marshmallow and rhubarb cake from definition alone, the 19-year-old from South Australia struggled to impress the judges. Judge Melissa said:
I’m so sorry, but you are leaving us today. It’s such a shame, but the food world is at your doorstep.
Yo Yo replied:
It’s been a short but very sweet time. I’m not sad about leaving the kitchen, I’m sad about leaving you guys.

Yo Yo Yang was born in the year 2002 in the United States to her parents. She moved to China when she was one year old, then to Adelaide two years later. She is a second-year medical student and she hopes to enter the competitive field of Orthopaedic surgery one day. Yo Yo has spent many long days on campus researching, organizing activities, and leading medical societies. These encounters inspired her to pursue her food dream of opening a university cafe that serves healthy, inexpensive, and appealing food.
She rose to fame after her appearance in the reality TV show, MasterChef Australia. However, she failed to impress the judges and became the second one to get eliminated. Her Kitchen idols include MasterChef Australia legends Poh Ling Yeow and Reynold Poernomo. Apart from cooking and studying, she enjoys making cards for friends and learning new musical instruments. At present, she is learning the oboe, French horn, piano, guitar, viola and percussion. She also wants to learn the flute and Guzheng.
